About
Lifetime Support Authority awarded a contract to SA Care for provision of supported accommodation and attendant care services for three Lifetime Support Scheme (LSS) Participants who were seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents.
The Lifetime Support Authority designed and funded treatment, care and support services for people seriously injured on South Australian roads, and the contract covered ongoing supported accommodation and attendant care for three Participants residing with SA Care whose care requirements had been classified as complex and who had been receiving these services for several years.
Following consultation with Service Planning & Specialist Support teams, the services were assessed as necessary and reasonable and the Participants were retained with SA Care to minimise risk of treatment, care and support disruption.
The award noted that a familiar environment, consistent care workers and ease of visitation supported participant choice and recovery, and that uprooting the Participants could cause disruption to recovery and could lead to material financial impact to the LSS scheme.
The award retained an incumbent specialist care provider to preserve continuity for complex cases, reflecting the Authority’s emphasis on minimising disruption to participant recovery and limiting potential financial exposure to the scheme.
