Sale of Eight Perpetual Taxi Licences in Devonport, Hobart and Launceston

Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources awarded a contract to 8 Licences were sold for the sale of perpetual taxi licences under the Taxi and Luxury Hire Car Industries Act 1995.

The Transport Commission, acting under Section 19 of the Act, made additional perpetual taxi licences available equivalent to 5% of the existing number of perpetual taxi licences in each relevant Tasmanian taxi area.

Licences were offered for sale by tender and the Commission did not accept tenders below the assessed market values specified for each area.

The offer schedule stated: Devonport — 1 licence (Assessed Market Value $46,000); Hobart — 11 licences (Assessed Market Value $120,000); Launceston — 5 licences (Assessed Market Value $57,000).

These licences were perpetual, became the personal property of the owner, and could be leased.
