About

Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to Jacobs Group (Australia) Pty Ltd for the design of protection screens at William Street (Horseshoe) Bridge and Barrack Street Bridge adjacent to Perth Railway Station.

The work addressed prevention of trespass, injuries and service disruptions following climbing incidents in 2021 and 2022.

Jacobs progressed two work packages (Work Package 1 – William St Bridge Protection Screens; Work Package 2 – Barrack St Bridge Protection Screens) and delivered site investigations; detailed design Issued For Construction (IFC) drawings; bill of materials; pre-tender estimates for the construction phase; inspection and test plans; construction scope of works and technical criteria across relevant disciplines; optional engineering support during construction; and issue of as-constructed drawings.

The contract followed prior concept design and stakeholder consultations by MPS Architects and recorded that, after design optioneering and heritage and structural considerations, an internally angled support mesh screen was promoted as the preferred solution.
