About
Public Transport Authority awarded a contract to RISING EDGE ENGINEERING PTY LTD for Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) assurance engineering services on the High-Capacity Signalling (HCS) Project.
The PTA was undertaking the HCS Project to replace the existing Transperth rail network signalling and control system with a radio-based in-cab Automatic Train Control (ATC) system to enable increased service frequencies.
The scope of the HCS Project included replacement of fixed-block signalling with a moving-block ATC system, provision of an automatic train supervision and regulation system, semi-automatic train operation to support drivers, simplified secondary signalling for ATC-unfitted third-party trains, replacement of life-expired signalling assets, and reduction of field signalling equipment.
The Consultant supplied appropriately experienced and qualified personnel to join the PTA’s HCS Project Team; the Consultant personnel were to lead the execution of RAMS responsibilities to support the PTA’s Project Management Engineering Team (PMET) in the delivery of the HCS Project.
The award reflected PTA's engagement of specialist RAMS consultancy support within an Alliance delivery model for a complex moving-block ATC upgrade, underscoring the importance of reliability, safety and maintainability assurance in major rail signalling replacements.
