Department of Human Services (DHS) awarded a contract to Aboriginal Family Support Services Ltd for the delivery of Intensive Family Services (IFS) as part of the Child and Family Support System (CFSS).
The contract funded high-intensity case management and practical supports for children (pre-birth to 17 years 11 months) and their families assessed as at high to very high risk of deeper statutory child protection involvement.
Services aimed to increase child safety and wellbeing by addressing child safety concerns, improving parenting capacity and family functioning; they identified the child(ren) as the primary client(s) and worked holistically with all family members where safe and appropriate.
The CFSS was described as a combined system of non-statutory services delivered by government, non-government organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, with priority focus groups including young parents (mothers under 23, fathers under 25), infants at high risk in their first 1,000 days, Aboriginal families with multiple and complex needs, and vulnerable young people at risk of future child protection contact.
The IFS service operated across Southern Adelaide, Northern Adelaide, Yorke and Mid North, Far North, Eyre and Western, and Murray and Mallee.
Contracts for intensive family support within the CFSS are structured to prioritise culturally informed, locally delivered services across multiple regions, and are commonly awarded to NGOs and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to meet high-need and complex family support requirements.
