About
Department of Human Services (DHS) awarded a contract to ac.care for the delivery of Intensive Family Services (IFS) within the Child and Family Support System (CFSS).
The contract funded high-intensity case management and practical supports for children (pre-birth to 17 years 11 months) and their families who were at high risk of deeper statutory child protection involvement and where child safety concerns were assessed as high to very high.
The IFS operated as a non-statutory, holistic service working alongside government agencies, non-government organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and engaged with all family members where safe and appropriate.
The service covered the Murray and Mallee and Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island state government areas and prioritised young parents (mothers under 23 and fathers under 25), infants at high risk in their first 1,000 days, Aboriginal families with multiple and complex needs, and young people vulnerable to future child protection contact.
The IFS aimed to increase child safety and wellbeing by addressing safety concerns, improving parenting capacity and strengthening family functioning.
The award reflected the CFSS approach of commissioning non-statutory, NGO-delivered intensive family supports targeted at defined high-risk cohorts and regional areas, underscoring emphasis on community-based case management and partnership with ACCOs.
